Behind The Scenes: Roots & Branches

February 2020 was the launch of a collaborative art exhibition presented by Play for Progress at the Museum of Croydon. Through creative projects in visual art, photography, music, and painting over the past year, our community of young people and associate artists explored themes of roots, displacement, branches, growth, nourishment, survival and the importance of connections to others and to the self. We want to share with you a glimpse of what we discovered within, about, and between ourselves through being and creating together.  Ahead of the release of the virtual version of Roots & branches, this blog shares a sneak peak of behind the scenes as the exhibition was installed, featuring photographs of young people getting to add the final touches in completing the exhibition while listening and creating music.

Play for Progress is a Croydon-based charity that delivers therapeutic and educational music and arts programmes, advocacy, and well-being support for traumatised and socially-isolated unaccompanied minor refugees. Our close-knit and resilient community of young people, artists, musicians, activists, educators, therapists, and allies is committed to ensuring that we all have a place where we can grow, heal and play for progress.
