Social & Cultural History Collection

The Social and Cultural History collection features approximately 220 objects. From a Trojan Bubble car, second world war, migration to household items objects. These objects have a significant link to Croydon and often connect to an oral history.

Highlights of the collection include:

• Battle of Arnhem framed photographs with citations of those awarded a Victoria Cross and the final Battle Order. These have now been conserved and are on display in the Town Hall. You can find more info here.

• Our iconic red Trojan Bubble car, manufactured by Trojan Limited at their Purley Way factory in Croydon during the early 1960s.

• Captain Sensible, from The Damned, full costume with beret and glasses.

• Queen Elizabeth I’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon.
