Special Exhibition: The Bride

  • Riesco Gallery, Croydon Clocktower Katharine Street Croydon, England, CR0 United Kingdom (map)

On Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd of May, the Museum of Croydon will be exhibiting a unique painting selected by the public to showcase the borough’s rich artistic heritage alongside free family activities.

The Bride, 1856, was first displayed with the verse: ‘We may not know, While life endures, whose lot is joy, whose woe. Whose is the sunlight, whose shall be the shade’. It was purchased by William Ford Stanley and displayed at Stanley Halls for many years before becoming part of the Museum of Croydon’s collection in 1992.

Inspired by the National Gallery’s Art Road Show coming to Croydon that weekend, we are taking the opportunity to showcase Croydon’s contribution to The Nation’s art history.
