The Queer Archive is a curated collection of images, texts and videos that were donated and acquired from people and groups within the LGBT+ community in Croydon during the Summer of 2020. As a collective, the entries document a cultural shift in public attitudes towards Croydon’s ever evolving LGBT+ scene.
Individually, the entries are about memory and the importance of reflecting on a time before the global pandemic.
In 2020 Coronavirus stole our opportunity to come together and revel in our fabulous queer diversity on the streets of Croydon for Pride. The feeling of loss that came with Pride’s cancellation is a reminder to us all that we need it now more than ever. We still need to unite in person, to gather hands across our community and have complicated discussions about things we don’t understand. This is how we evolve. Now we are slowly surfacing out of Lockdown we need to ensure that no one in our community ever feels alone again. We need to remember those that paved the way before us and celebrate their work.
Come Out. Be Proud. Be Visible.
